We all know those people who consume news every second of every day.

I call them Awareness Supremacists.

Now, if you ask this person why they're reading or watching so much news, they'll justify it by saying that it's good to be aware of these things.

I call bullshit.

Here's the thing.

Most things that are happening in the world will not affect you, and you cannot affect them.

Let me prove it to you.

1.
2.
3.

In the time it took you to count those 3 seconds, a kid died in Vietnam.

Now, for these Awareness Supremacists, they think, "Oh, it's important to know that a kid died in Vietnam just now.

"In fact, you need to find out all about what's happening in Vietnam and what's up with their government, what's up with the recent political stuff, and blah, blah."

Personally, I don't give a fuck about that kid.

Now, do I wish he didn't die?

Of course.

Does it do me any good to know that a kid in a foreign country fucking died?

No.

Literally the only thing that can happen is that I feel worse.

Why?

Because I can't resurrect that kid.

I can't do anything with that information.

This is the case for almost all information that these Awareness Supremacists search for.

They want to talk about all these injustices in other parts of the world, but they don't vote in their own fucking local elections.

Now, you can argue that both of those things are useless, but my point is that being aware of something that you cannot have an effect on just takes up space in your brain.

You have limited space.

Don't waste it on shit that doesn't matter.

If it's important, you will find out, and you will have to take action.

If there's news that you have to seek out, it's 99% not going to affect you and not important.

So don't waste your mental bandwidth on that shit.

And no, I am not advocating for complete nihilism and apathy.

What I'm arguing is that the information that these Awareness Supremacists seek, it's useless.

They can't do anything with that information.

And no, bitching online is not useful.

So next time you want to open up your news app or watch TV, think, "Am I going to do anything with this information?

If not, do I really need to take it into my head?"

Focus on what's around you.

You'll be much happier, I promise.

By the way, check out my YouTube channel. I'm actually somewhat active on there again.

Till next time,

Kevin Tejada
